Slug

Help

Connect your YOURLS server, use Slug everywhere, and fix common problems.

Get started

  1. Open Slug for the first time.
  2. Enter your YOURLS endpoint, like short.yourdomain.com.
  3. Enter the signature token (API key) from your YOURLS admin panel.
  4. Slug tests the connection, and you’re ready to shorten links.

Using Slug

Shorten a link from Safari or another app
  1. Open the page in Safari, or any app that can share a link.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Choose Slug. Your short link is created right away.
Add Slug widgets

Add a Slug widget to your Home Screen to open your most recent links with a tap, or to create a new link without opening the app.

Use more than one YOURLS server

Slug can connect to several YOURLS installations, which helps when you manage links for different projects or clients.

Slug for Mac

Install and connect the Mac app
  1. Download Slug from the Mac App Store.
  2. Open Slug from your Applications folder.
  3. Connect your YOURLS server with the same endpoint and signature token you use on iPhone.
Keep links in sync with your server

Links you create or edit on your Mac sync with your YOURLS server. If a recent change doesn’t appear, refresh or reopen Slug and make sure your Mac is online.

Share with QR codes

Use the QR code tools for links you share in person, in presentations, or in print. Each code is generated from the selected short link.

Fix problems on Mac
  • If Slug can’t connect, check your YOURLS hostname, signature token, and the server’s SSL certificate.
  • If links don’t refresh, confirm your Mac is online and your YOURLS admin panel opens in a browser.
  • If sharing doesn’t work, restart Slug and check any macOS privacy or extension permissions it asks for.
  • If the app doesn’t open after installing, update macOS and reinstall Slug from the Mac App Store.

Common problems

Slug can’t connect to my server

A clean hostname like short.yourdomain.com works best, though Slug also accepts full URLs, protocols, and common YOURLS API paths. Double-check the signature token, too.

Where do I find my signature token?

In your YOURLS admin panel, open Tools and copy the signature token. That’s the API key Slug asks for.

Links aren’t shortening from the Share Sheet

Open Slug at least once after installing so iOS grants it the permissions it needs, then try the Share Sheet again.

A new app icon isn’t showing

This is a known iOS issue. Restart your device and the new icon should appear.
