Getting Started with Bit Buddy
Learn how to add your first device and start organizing your storage collection.
Welcome to Bit Buddy! This guide will walk you through the basics of getting started with the app. Whether you're managing external hard drives, SSDs, cloud storage, or any other device, Bit Buddy makes it easy to keep track of everything in one place.
Understanding Bit Buddy
Bit Buddy is a device logger designed to help you manage and organize all your storage devices. At its core, Bit Buddy allows you to:
- Log and track all your external devices
- Monitor storage capacity and usage
- Record device status and network information
- Set up maintenance schedules and logs
- Organize devices with tags and categories
All your data is stored locally on your device, ensuring complete privacy and security. No servers, no cloud sync—just your data, on your device.
Adding Your First Device
Adding a device to Bit Buddy is straightforward. Here's how to get started:
Step 1: Open the Add Device Screen
When you first open Bit Buddy, you'll see an empty device list. Tap the "+" button (the big "+" button in the bottom right corner) to begin adding your first device.

The add device screen will prompt you for several key pieces of information:

- Device Type: Select the type of device from the available options (External Drive, SD Card, Laptop, etc.)
- Total Capacity: Enter the total storage capacity of your device
- Used Storage: Specify how much storage is currently being used
Step 3: Add Additional Details (Optional)
While not required, you can enhance your device entry with additional information:
- File/Content Type: Describe what kind of files or content is stored on the device
- Status: Mark the device as Active or Inactive
- Network Status: Indicate if the device is online or offline (especially useful for network-attached storage)
- Location: Add a physical location using the built-in map feature
- Web/IP Address: For network devices, add the web interface URL or IP address for quick access
Step 4: Save Your Device
Once you've entered the information, tap "Add Device" to add the device to your list. Your device will now appear in the main device list, and you can view or edit it at any time.
Viewing Your Device List
After adding devices, you'll see them displayed in a clean, organized list. Each device entry shows:
